1. What is an RTK licence and why do I need one?
An RTK (Real-Time Kinematic) network licence gives your GNSS rover access to real-time correction data from a managed network of permanently installed base stations. Without corrections, standard GNSS positioning is accurate to 2–5 metres. With RTK corrections, accuracy improves to 1–2 centimetres in real time — the level required for professional surveying, construction stakeout, machine control and precision mapping. Our RTK Premium subscription delivers these corrections via NTRIP over a mobile internet connection, so you get survey-grade accuracy anywhere in the coverage area without setting up your own base station.
2. How long does an RTK licence last and can it be renewed?
Your licence runs for the duration you selected at checkout — 1 week, 1 month, 6 months, 1 year, 2 years or 3 years — starting from your chosen activation date. When your subscription period ends, it does not renew automatically. You'll receive a reminder before expiry so you can choose to renew or select a new plan. If your programme runs longer than expected, you can purchase a renewal or upgrade to a longer term — contact our team and we'll set it up without any break in your correction access.
3. Is an RTK licence device-specific or can it be transferred?
Your RTK Premium licence is issued as a set of NTRIP credentials (username, password, host address and mountpoint) rather than being locked to a specific device serial number. This means you can use the same credentials across your rover fleet, switching between instruments as needed. However, simultaneous connections from multiple devices using the same credentials may be subject to the connection limits of your subscription tier. If you need multi-device concurrent access, speak to our team about the right plan for your fleet.
4. What regions are covered under my RTK Licence?
RTK Premium provides correction coverage across 35 countries worldwide, including full coverage of the United Kingdom. The network is particularly well suited to teams working across the UK and Europe, with consistent correction quality throughout. If your work regularly crosses national borders within the coverage area, a single RTK Premium subscription gives you the same level of accuracy without changing providers or buying separate regional licences. Coverage maps and specific country availability can be confirmed with our team before purchase if you have specific location requirements.
5. Can I add a SIM card to any RTK subscription?
SIM cards are available as an add-on exclusively with subscriptions of 1 year or longer. If you purchase a 1-week, 1-month or 6-month subscription, the SIM card option is not available — you'll need to provide a data connection to your rover through an alternative method, such as the receiver's own built-in SIM slot (if fitted), a paired smartphone hotspot, or a separate mobile data plan. If you need a SIM card as part of your setup, we recommend choosing at least a 1-year subscription.
6. What data size SIM card do I need?
The right SIM card size depends on how many hours per day your rover is connected to the NTRIP stream and how many rovers share the connection. As a general guide: 1,000MB is suitable for occasional or light field use; 2,500MB covers regular daily field use across a single device; 5,000MB is recommended for intensive daily use, machine control operations or UAV programmes where the receiver maintains a continuous connection throughout the working day. If you're unsure, our team can advise based on your typical working pattern.
7. What equipment do I need to use RTK Premium?
You need a GNSS receiver that supports network RTK (NTRIP) — this includes the CHCNAV and Trimble receivers we sell and support, as well as most other professional-grade GNSS rovers. Your receiver also needs a data connection to receive corrections — either via its own built-in cellular module, a paired smartphone acting as a hotspot, or the SIM card add-on available with 1-year+ subscriptions. No base station, radio modem or additional hardware is required.
