Last week, we hosted our first Survey Equipment Showcase in partnership with CHCNAV at Crow Wood Hotel & Spa in Burnley. The aim of the day was simple: give surveying professionals the opportunity to get hands-on with the latest CHCNAV equipment, understand how they perform in real conditions and learn how to improve workflows through innovative technology.
The event brought together live demonstrations, technical presentations and expert-led sessions to give everyone the full picture of what this equipment can offer. Along with our director, Ted, who has over twenty years of experience in the surveying industry, the demonstrations were supported by surveyors from the Tri-Site team. They use this technology day-to-day across a variety of real-life jobs, which enabled them to offer practical insight and real value to the day.
The New Generation of Efficient Data Capture.
Experiencing The Innovation of CHCNAV GNSS Sensors
After breakfast and networking, the day began with an introduction to Tri-Site and CHC Navigation from Ted.
The first technical session focused on CHCNAV GNSS rovers. One of our surveyors carried out a live demo outside, showing how the equipment connects, captures, and streams data in real time. On-screen, attendees could see results as they were collected, while we discussed accuracy, performance, and the features that help teams work efficiently even in difficult conditions. At Tri-SIte, we offer a large range of GNSS Sensors, and we know that understanding the differences is important, which is why we extensively covered this. We also explored the tablet and software pairing, highlighting how the full system can streamline work on-site.
Capturing 3D Point Cloud Data More Efficiently with the RS10
Next, we introduced the RS10 laser scanner, supported by both indoor and outdoor scanning demonstrations. The session covered SLAM-based scanning, built-in GNSS, dual cameras and the lifetime processing software that’s included as standard. We scanned the building live, displayed the data instantly, and walked through finished point clouds and completed models to show what the RS10 is capable of across a variety of environments.
Having our own surveyors run the demo meant attendees could ask practical questions about how the RS10 performs on real jobs, what workflows look like day-to-day, and how quickly results can be turned around.
Streamlining Aerial Surveys with the X500 and AA10
After lunch, the focus moved to aerial data capture. Our team introduced the X500 and AA10 drones with a mix of live outdoor flying and indoor presentations. These covered flight planning, data management and how they perform in real-world use.
We showed how the X500’s long flight time, weather resistance and range make it ideal for covering large areas with minimal downtime. Attendees could transparently see how easily it integrates into a wider survey workflow and how it compares with other drone and uav sustems.
Taking Underwater Automated Data Capture to the Next Level with the Apache 4 USV
Finally, we showcased the Apache 4 Unmanned Surface Vessel on the lake beside the venue. This session highlighted how automated hydrographic data capture can be carried out safely and accurately from the shore.
The USV collected data live on the water, which we streamed to the screen indoors. Presentations showed the kind of accurate data the Apache can produce, and our team discussed how it’s been used on real jobs. We demonstrated the autonomous navigation features, and explained how the Apache 4 is game-changer for carrying out complex surveys safely from the shoreline, reducing risk and increasing efficiency.
The Feedback
Every piece of equipment on show is technology we have personally used on real projects. This wasn’t just about looking at specification sheets: it was about putting the equipment to the test in front of professionals, with full transparency. Our goal was to give attendees to ask the questions that matter, see how it performs in practical scenarios and understand how the equipment could fit into their workflows. That’s why it was so important to have our experienced team, not sales reps, leading the demonstrations.
The day closed with a Q&A session and hands-on access to all equipment. Feedback has been excellent. Attendees said the honest, practical nature of the demos helped them understand the equipment better than any brochure ever could. The combination of live tests, walkthroughs and direct conversations with surveyors gave people the confidence to purchase this equipment. Everyone who attended also received a voucher giving them £500 off any CHCNAV product purchased at the event.
